A snippet of the safety talk

Flipping – because we deal with nature and we might meet the Nyami Nyami (Zambezi River) angry, the boat may flip during the trip. Please don’t worry, just remember this: keep calm, hold your breath for a few seconds and our PFD jacket will resurface you. Look around, if the boat is still close swim back to it and hold on whether it is right-side-up or upside-down. Always keep your feet downstream, float flat on your back until the water calms.

Swimming – the Zambezi River is one of the biggest rivers in the world which means it's never a good idea to try to swim out of danger, always just float downstream until the water calms. Download PDF with Safety Info

AGE RESTRICTION
The minimum age is 15 years old. The maximum age limit is dependent on the individual’s general state of health and physical fitness.

EXPERIENCE AND FITNESS
No previous rafting experience is required, the ability to swim is necessary but not really required. At the beginning and at the end of the half day raft trip clients have to negotiate a steep path in and out of the gorge. The walk is 750 vertical feet with a gradient of 1 in 3, and a person of average fitness can manage this in approximately 20 minutes.

INSURANCE
Maano Adventures is covered by a liability insurance. We do advice our guest to take out a travel insurance that includes activity sports.

MIXED RAFT CREW
We run the Zambezi in 16-foot self-bailing rafts, with crews of up to 8, but usually 6 or 7. You and your travel companions may be teamed up with people you don’t know. Not to worry, you will be under the instruction of one of our experienced guides who boast of over 10 years’ experience in this river. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and create lasting friendships. It is an incredible shared experience, on an incredible river. The teamwork and exhilaration of a day on the Zambezi simply can’t be explained; until you've “ticked it off”. However, you may opt for a PRIVATE RAFTING TRIP if you feel uncomfortable with this arrangement.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR WHITE WATER RAFTING
We recommend light outdoor sandals or trainers, shorts and a t-shirt. A cap can also be worthwhile beneath the helmet. Please note due to temperatures and the sun please bring sunscreen.

TAKING WATER/FOOD ON THE RAFTS
Maano provides drinking water on all rafts. At the end of the trip, you will be served with a munchy lunch.

VIDEOS AND PHOTOGRAPHS
While on the river, videos and photographs will be taken by our photographers, these are included in your rate.

CAMERAS. MY PASSPORT AND OTHER VALUABLES ON THE RAFT
Maano Adventures advises clients to leave cameras, passports and valuables at their hotel. If you have to bring valuables along, we can secure your valuables and you claim them back after the trip.
