Half-Day Rafting & Victoria Waterfall Swim | Batoka Gorge
This expedition takes you deep into the belly of the Zambezi. It is a physical journey that rewards you with the most unique "shower" on Earth.
🕙 The Descent: Into the Boiling Pot
The adventure begins with a steep, scenic hike down the historic trail into the Batoka Gorge.
-
The Experience: As you descend the 100-meter canyon walls, the roar of the falls grows louder and the air becomes humid with mist.
-
The Destination: You’ll arrive at the Boiling Pot, the massive whirlpool at the base of the Victoria Falls Bridge where the river turns sharply and surges into the canyon.
🕙 Safety Briefing & Gear Up
At the water's edge, your professional river guides will provide a comprehensive safety briefing.
-
Equipment: You’ll be fitted with a high-buoyancy life jacket, a safety helmet, and a paddle.
-
Training: Learn the "Down!" and "Paddle Hard!" commands that will keep your raft upright in the white water.
🕙 The "Under the Falls" Swim
Before the heavy paddling begins, your guides will lead you to a calm eddy tucked behind the main currents.
-
The Refresh: Experience the "Rain Forest" from below. You’ll have the chance to swim in the cool Zambezi waters while the mist from the Victoria Falls rains down on you.
-
The View: Look up at the 108-meter-high basalt curtains of water from a perspective few people ever see.
🕙 Rafting the Batoka Rapids
Board the rafts to tackle a selection of the Zambezi’s most famous rapids. Depending on the water level, you will face:
-
Rapid #1 (The Wall): A thrilling start right at the base of the falls.
-
Rapid #2 & #3: High-volume wave trains that provide big splashes and plenty of adrenaline.
-
Teamwork: Navigate the technical sections through the narrow, ancient rock walls of the gorge.
🕙 The Gorge Climb & Refreshments
All good things must come to an end. We dock the rafts for the hike back up to the canyon rim.
-
The Challenge: The hike up is steep (a great workout!), but there are plenty of spots to stop and admire the view.
-
The Reward: Once at the top, cold drinks and light snacks await you to celebrate your conquest of the Zambezi.
